This megalith is the only one known on the Isle Of Wight. It probably dates to the neolithic. The stones are associated with a long barrow and may well have formed the entrance to the long barrow. The site is fairly easily accessible from the small car park on the nearby road. We visited the Longstone on a particularly atmospheric foggy day (as you can see in the photos). In Saxon times the Longstone was used as a meeting place. Well worth a visit if you find yourself on the Isle of Wight.
